Mafia Game 3 Roles + "Order" explanation Empty Mafia Game 3 Roles + "Order" explanation

TOWN
• Avatar Aang (One-shot Bulletproof) – Upon being targeted for a kill, Aang goes into the Avatar state protecting him from a single kill during the night. Please note, however, that this is only a one-shot protection – meaning that he is protected only from the first kill that occurs in the game.

• Katara (Doctor) – Katara may use her water healing powers to target a player once a night to protect that player from a single kill made during that Night. Katara is not told if her protection was successful and the person she chooses to protect will not be told either. Protection from a single kill means that if multiple players try to kill someone and that player is protected by Katara, that player will die from the second kill. She is not allowed to self-target.

• Sokka (Cop) – After grabbing his bubble pipe and putting on his trusty houndsooth hat, the typically mild-mannered Sokka (or rather, as mild-mannered as Sokka can be…) becomes the amazing Detective Sokka! Once a night he has the ability to investigate other players in order to discern their alignment at Night. Alignment means that Sokka will receive the result of the investigation from the GM as either “Town” or “Mafia”. Players who are investigated are not told as such.

• Toph (Watcher) – Although blind from birth, let it never be said that Toph Beifong is a helpless or ignorant child. Able to “see” everything around her by feeling the vibrations in the ground through her feet, Toph can target a player at Night and learn who, if anybody, followed and targeted that player the same Night (but not what actions were performed on that player). If more than one person performs an action on Toph’s target, she will receive the results in the order that the actions occur. [“Order” refers to the order in which night actions are taken in a Mafia game, not the order in which the GM receives the PMs. The following post will clarify how “order” will be decided in this game.] It should be noted that if Toph’s target is not visited by anyone in the night she will receive a “No Result” message back from the GM, which is indistinguishable from the result she would have gotten if the she were Chi-blocked.

• Prince Zuko (Bomb) – The head-strong prince of the Fire Nation, Prince Zuko initially saw it as a his life goal to capture the Avatar in order to regain his princely honor; however, upon repeated encounters with the Avatar and his gang, the Prince began to realize that perhaps his father and sister were misguided… If targeted at night for a kill which succeeds, Zuko will reflexively kill his killer – as well as all other players who have targeted him for the night

MAFIA
• Princess Azula (Godfather) – A truly gifted trickster and politician, Azula of the Fire Nation maintains pull and influence within the police force and as a result is immune to investigations – both by the police and by foolish little Water Tribe investigators. In addition to investigation immunity, Azula is the final arbiter in who the Mafia kills, and thus must be the only person in the Mafia who must send the GM who the Mafia will kill that night and who will be performing the kill; however, if she chooses to perform the kill herself that night, she must give up her investigation immunity for that night as well.

• Ty Lee (Role Blocker) – Utilizing her Chi-blocking powers, Tai Lee may choose one player per Night to block from performing his or her night action. The target's night action will not be performed -- that is, Tai Lee blocks the target's role from working for that night. She can only stop things the target tries to actively perform, such as Cop investigations and Doctor protection. Passive abilities, such as a Bulletproof player's kill immunity are not affected. More simply - if the player has to submit an action to the moderator, Tai Lee is able to block it.

• Mai (Ninja) – A refined and graceful killer, Mai has the ability to never be seen as targeting anyone by a Tracker – even those who are able to sense vibrations in the ground. There will almost never be any ill effects to sending a Ninja to perform the Mafia's kill, so as long as the Ninja is alive, Trackers and Watchers will simply never see the Mafia kill.

Mafia Game 3 Roles + "Order" explanation Empty Re: Mafia Game 3 Roles + "Order" explanation

I'm sure some of you who read Toph's role description must have been a little confused by the concept of order or were curious to hear more about it. As I stated before, Toph receives her results in the order the active actions are taken.

In a Mafia game there are two types of powers - active powers and passive actions. Active powers are those which a player must send me a PM for the power to work, such as a doctor's protection or a Mafia kill. Passive powers are those which the player does not need to send me a PM for them to work, such a one-shot bullet proof or the ability to permanently be seen as "innocent" in an investigation.

When I calculate how what happens at the end of the night, I must put them in light of the night action order. Those actions at the top occur "first" and those at the bottom occur "last". The order is as follows:

• Passive Actions (Bullet-proof/ Investigation-proof/ Watcher-proof
• Role Block
• Investigations (Both Cop and Watcher)
• Doctor
• Kills (Both Mafia and Bomb)

This means that during the night, a role block will trump all actions following it, but will not be able to trump the passive powers before it. Likewise, when Toph watches a player who is acted upon by more than one power role, Topy will see the names of the players who have acted - in the order that they are performed during the night.
