Chief Swann held the station phone in his hand, unable to comprehend what the governor had just told him. According to the man, the situation in Forks, Washington had now been considered an "emergency too big for a small town police station to deal with."

The governor was now calling for a complete evacuation of Forks, so that that national guard could be called in to deal with the issue.

He...had failed.

At the same time, Riley and his henchman stood at the edge of the woods near Fork's high school, an enormous grin nearly splitting his face in two. His foot was precariously perched on the body of a certain rival of his - Victoria. Her eyes were clouded over and lifeless.

He couldn't help but laugh

"Idiot woman thought she could take over this town." He lifted her up by the collar of her shirt, speaking directly to her as if the corpse could respond. "Well, now I have all the power. And you? You are nothing more than the dirt under by shoe."

To accent his words, he allows her face to fall back to the ground. Placing his foot on the back of her skull, he pushes down.

"Sleep tight, bitch"
